Right now, Revolv has three of its radios online and active: Insteon, WiFi and Z-Wave. Our next addition in 2014 will be Zigbee, with the remainder to follow afterward. The remaining three are: 900 MHz, 433 MHz, and 915 MHz.
Revolv is incredibly simple to set up. Once you’ve got your Revolv Smart Home Solution, you can set it up in under 60 seconds using only your smartphone or tablet. There is no Ethernet connection; just plug the Hub directly into any centrally located wall socket in your home and you’re off to the races.
Once you’ve downloaded the app and begun walking though the setup process, Revolv pulls your WiFi information from your phone (you type in your password) and transfers it to the Hub in seconds using FlashLink.
Then, the Revolv set-up wizard makes it easy to find and connect to the wireless devices you already own and have up and running, like lights, locks, thermostats, speakers, smart-plugs, shades, sensors and more.
Once connected, you can easily create your own Actions based on an array of triggers, such as geolocation, time of day, device-to-device and motion sensors. There’s no programming required! Use Actions to harmonize multiple devices and have them work in concert with the touch of a button, or automatically throughout your day.

Once your Hub is up and running, Revolv will automatically scan for all of the smart devices that you already have set up in your home. It will auto-discover products like Nest Thermostat, Sonos speakers, and Philips Hue, and add them to your dashboard for immediate control.
For switches and wall outlets, Revolv is always scanning for them, but they require you to interact with them in order for the Hub to see it (typically by pressing a button)
For devices that are a little more complicated, like locks, the Revolv app will walk you through their setup process simply and quickly, ensuring all your smart devices are connected to the Hub in a matter of minutes.
FlashLink is our revolutionary, proprietary method that you’ll use to get your Revolv Hub joined to your local Wi-Fi network.
Using the flash (or screen) of your smartphone or tablet, you’ll transfer the WiFi information that your smart device already has stored (with a password you provide for security reasons) directly to the hub through what looks like a strobe light show, but is really light-based morse code. No registering online, no fuss, no muss. You’re up and running in less than 60 seconds.
Currently, Revolv works with many of the off-the-shelf devices that you love (and probably already own!) Examples include Sonos, Philips Hue, Belkin WeMo, Insteon products & many, many more. Check out our full list of supported devices here
Our goal, of course, is to work with every off-the-shelf smart home device you can purchase. While we are adding device support monthly, we do realize that many of our customers own or wish to purchase devices that Revolv is not currently compatible with.
If you have a particular device you’d like to see supported, please add it to our ‘Requested Devices’ section of our support site, or up-vote it if someone else has already requested it. We take customer requests very seriously, and they determine our entire device support roadmap.
Unofficially, yes we do. Revolv will auto-detect your Nest Thermostat when you set up your Hub, and we allow for basic control functionality in our app and Action integration with other smart devices. Once Nest releases their API, Revolv will officially support the Learning Thermostat, and additional functionality will be added.
Currently, Revolv is only shipped and distributed across the United States. The reason for this is because our team needs to first complete the process of researching and meeting compliance and protocol certification requirements for each country we are looking to enter. With seven radios, this is a lengthy and highly involved process. As soon as we have an estimated date on when we can ship internationally, we will let you know!

Revolv is $299 for our smart home Hub & App, and includes a Lifetime Subscription, which means no monthly fees!
The Revolv Lifetime Subscription, which is included in the $299 you pay for the solution, enables GeoSense automation and remote updates that allows your Revolv to work together seamlessly (and continually update) with the products you already own; for the lifetime of the product. This is something that many other solutions charge for on a monthly basis.
Yep! Revolv will work with and sync to multiple iOS-based devices, as long as they fit our parameters: iPhone 4S or higher, iPad 3rd Gen or higher or iPod Touch 5th Gen. iOS 6 or higher is also required.
As many as you can get your hands on! Revolv does not have a limit on the amount of devices it can support, so as long as it’s on our Currently Supported Devices list, you’re good to go.
The Revolv team takes the security of you, your family, and your technology very seriously. We use the same 128-bit, SSL encryption that the major banks use in processing financial transactions. This ensures that all of the communications between your phone, your devices and your Hub remain completely private.
Our service also continually monitors your interactions, whether automatic or manually activated, to ensure that only those you’ve designated access to are able to utilize your solution. With the ability to deactivate your solution remotely and revoke access from any phone at any time, you’re completely in control of Revolv and all of the devices attached, no matter where you are or what the circumstance is. The privacy of your home and your information are our primary concern, and we’re constantly working so that you can place your full trust and confidence in your Revolv Smart Home Solution.

Losing your phone is always a bummer, but hey, it happens to the best of us. Our team is here to make sure your home remains safe, secure and completely in your control.
First, we always encourage users to keep a passcode on your phone, and to keep your “Find my iPhone” feature enabled. This way you can shut down your phone, and even wipe it clean remotely, should it gets into the wrong hands. You can then disable your iPhone using Apple’s Lost Mode, preventing access to anything on your phone including the Revolv app.
You can also give us a call at (888) 966-9733. After confirming your identity, our support team can remotely disable your Revolv account, locking out all access to your home from your lost mobile device. You can then re-commission your hub with a new phone using Flashlink.
This really depends on the type of smart devices you own and the radios they run on, but the average range for a Revolv Hub is about a 50-60 ft radius in a typically constructed home.
It’s worth it to note that some types of smart device, such as Z-Wave and Insteon, will create a “mesh network” off each other, which greatly extend the range and reliability of all the devices of that type. We recommend having at least a few plugged-in devices of either of these to build a more reliable network around your Revolv home.
Not just yet. But for those of you with larger homes (bigger than 10,000 sq/ft) or second homes who desire an additional Hub, this is a feature our team is currently working on. You can track it’s progress in our roadmap on our support site.
Yes! Revolv syncs with Insteon Remotes and allows you to assign manual-triggered Actions you create to the individual buttons quickly and easily. Leave these in your living room, bedroom, kitchen, etc. to give you complete control over your home even when you’re not near your phone.

Nope! You just need an open outlet to plug your Hub into (preferably centrally located in your home), your existing home WiFi network, and a smart device capable of downloading the Revolv app to run it all.
Absolutely! Revolv’s Actions allow you to unify devices and customize automations based on four different triggers, three of which are automatic: GeoSense, time of day, and device-to-device / motion sensor. You’ll quickly find that once you’ve tailored these Actions to your lifestyle, you’ll rarely need to touch your mobile device as your home automates around you on a daily basis.
In most cases, yes they can.
For devices like Philips Hue, Belkin WeMo, Sonos and Nest, you can (and should) still use their native apps for more in-depth interactions with those individual devices. Our solution is not here to completely replace these apps; we just want to give you enough functionality to allow all your devices to work together harmoniously.
For some devices, such as Insteon and Z-Wave switches, we recommend unjoining/factory resetting them so that they are controlled exclusively through the Revolv Hub. If you keep them on their existing network, they can send commands that conflict with the setup you do on Revolv.
